This isn’t my writing, but its something friends who are following my expereince here should probably know.

Great Barrington, MA –  David McCandless, Jr., of Alford Road, Great Barrington, died Tuesday, August 12, at Fairview Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, on January 10, 1923, the son of David and Helen (Darlington) McCandless, he attended Great Barrington schools, The Berkshire School, Cornell University, and M.I.T, with degrees in architecture and acoustical engineering.  Mr. McCandless served in the Army infantry from 1942 to 1947, with World War II service in France, Germany, and Austria. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant and remained in the Reserves until 1954. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.  From 1947 until his retirement, Mr. McCandless specialized in acoustical architecture both as a consultant in the Northeast and in Texas, and as a teacher in the University of Texas system. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Acoustical Society of America (AIA and ASA). Mr. McCandless was a watercolor and pastel artist, winning many awards, including Best of Show in the National Juried Show for the Connecticut Pastel Society. He was a member of the Southwest Watercolor Society, the Texas Watercolor Society, and a very active board member for The Housatonic Valley Art League. He greatly enjoyed playing music with his family, told marvelous stories, and had a rich sense of humor. Along with poetry, he wrote a history of his family in Great Barrington and a memoir of his military experience. He leaves three children: his daughter H. Dee McCandless and her partner Mark Edwards of Austin, TX; his son David III and his wife Carla McCandless of Red Feather Lakes, CO; his daughter Margaret McCandless and her husband George Dresser of Holden, MA; two grandsons, Caleb and Winslow Dresser; nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends.  A memorial service is being planned, to be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Main Street in Great Barrington, MA.
